A 41-year-old man was injured in a shooting early Sunday morning near a local park and middle school.

Police found a man shot on the front porch of a home in the 500 block of South 9th Street at about at 2:41 a.m. Sunday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

Officers received a ShotSpotter alert and 911 call about a shooting early Sunday morning, Lindsay said. The home is located in a neighborhood behind the Robert Strange Park and Williston Middle School of Math, Science and Technology.

When they arrived on scene, police reportedly saw several people leaving the area. Police found the victim conscious but not speaking, Lindsay said. The victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center to be treated for a single gunshot wound between his right lower buttock and leg area. His injury was not considered life-threatening.

Detectives are still working to gather additional information about the incident and suspect descriptions, Lindsay said. The investigation is ongoing.
