Bucs tennis finishes unbeaten in league play; WCA volleyball coach earns 500th win

Laney finished a perfect season against league opponents following a 9-0 victory over South Brunswick on Monday night. The Bucs dropped just two games in four singles matches, while Suzie Schoolfield and Anna Porcelli grabbed an 8-0 win as the team’s top tandem.

Grayson Smith took the sixth spot during individual play and pulled out a 6-4, 6-2 result over Gracie Staiger. Cami Jefferson also teamed up with Kendall Hanks for a doubles win after they each grabbed a straight set victories at No. 3 and No. 5 singles.

Monday’s match at Wilmington Christian featured two of the elite teams from across the area and the Patriots grabbed a 3-1 result over Hoggard.

The victory was Coach Tonya Upton’s 500th career win as the two schools faced off in volleyball for the first time dating back to sometime in the 1990s.

Trailing by one set after the Vikings took the opener 25-23, Wilmington Christian outlasted the top team in the Mideastern Conference for the victory.

Parrott Academy 3     Coastal Christian 0 

(25-12, 28-26, 25-23)
The Lady Centurions dropped a close match to Parrott Academy on Monday. Sam Stanko led Coastal Christian with 10 kills. Callie Weaver and Caroline Mansfield each had eight digs and Weaver had five aces. Anna Grace Holdford put out 22 assists.
 Coastal Christian fell to 10-17 overall and 4-2 in conference.
