William “Bill” Edward Wells Jr., of Carolina Beach, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at his home. He was 71.

Bill was born in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 30, 1944, son of the late Noreen and William Edwards Wells, Sr.

Bill was a successful business owner spanning five decades. He spent many years in the car industry, owning and operating auto body shops, used car dealerships, a taxi cab business and service stations. During this time, he also owned race horses and ran a marina on the Potomac River. Bill then focused his energy on building custom homes in Maryland and for the past 15 years in Carolina Beach and Kure Beach.

When not working, he loved restoring boats, talking with the local captains and crew, visiting David’s boat yard, spending time with great neighbors and enjoying his family.

Surviving are his wife and best friend of 50 years, Jeannie Wells; a son, William Edward Wells III and wife, Audrey, of Middletown, Maryland; a daughter, Kimberly Wells Garner and husband, Christopher, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Thomas William Wells, Madeline Taylor Wells, Gabrielle Wells Garner and Jenelle Wells Garner; mother-in-law, Louise Butt, of Wilmington; beloved Kristie Quint and husband, Mike; and a special kitty cat, Sheldon.

A sister, Nancy Wells, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct 15, 2015, also at the mortuary, with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Wright officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington.

Serving as pallbearers will be William E. Wells III, Thomas William Wells, Christopher Garner, Mike Quint, Nat Harrison and Rob Penn.
