Dorothy Spooner Bordeaux Cunningham, of Wilmington, died Oct. 11, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. She was 93.

She was born in New Hanover County on Oct. 23, 1921, the daughter of the late Lawrence E. Spooner and Fannie Ward Spooner Greer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Lawrence Cunningham and a son, William B. Bordeaux. Also remembered is her first husband and father of her children, Alexander Russell Bordeaux.

Mrs. Cunningham was a member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church and was very active in the Presbyterian Women’s Circle, where she enjoyed helping with many types of ministry with the Seamen’s Center. She also enjoyed puzzles, visiting with young people, reading her bible and spending time with her cats. Dorothy will be remembered most for her love of life and her energetic spirit by her family and friends.

Surviving are her children, Dorothy Geraldine Collins (James), of Wilmington, Russell Timothy Bordeaux, of Shallotte and Sandra Strickland Smith, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Traci, Heidi, Richard, Russell, Jimmy, Billy, David, Janet, Brenda, Holly, Richard and Jill; 14 great-grandchildren; and lifelong friends, Francis, Sandy, Beth and Louise.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at Cape Fear Presbyterian Church, followed by a service beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jonathan C. Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation, Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their loving care.
