Joan Lorraine Posey, of Wilmington, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at the age of 82.

She was born in Staten Island, New York on Aug. 31, 1933. After marrying her late husband, Tom Posey, they relocated to Wilmington in 1970. Joan was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington for many years. She was a lifelong Bingo player and loved thrift store shopping as well as spending time with her family and pets, especially while making her traditional Italian Christmas dinner.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Saylor and Gertrude Martin; sister, Pauline Saylor; and daughter, Norma Brown.

She is survived by her siblings, James Martin (wife Joanne), Patricia Taddeo (husband Jack) and Maureen Lynch (husband Thomas); children, Barbara Palmer (husband Ben), Mary Halecki (husband Lee), Tommy Posey (wife Kelly) and Eddie Posey (wife Vivian); son-in-law, Joe Brown; grandchildren, Stephen Murphy (wife Aurora), Katie Smith, Michael Dixon (wife Kaori), Beth Kettner (husband John), Cassidy Palmer (partner Jill Smith), Faith Hommel (husband David) and Jeremy Shoulars (wife Sara); and great-grandchildren, Emma, Grace and Miriam Dixon, Koren, Madison and Jackson Smith, Tucker and Ellie Kettner, Seth and Sydney Hommel and Cruz Shoulars.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5 and Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Coble-Ward Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403. The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC 28403, with Father Patrick Keane officiating. The interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28412.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
