Two men were charged with impaired driving after they were injured in a wreck on Carolina Beach Road.
The wreck occurred in the 1700 block of Carolina Beach Road just after midnight Thursday, when a Honda Accord reportedly failed to stop at the red light and struck a Toyota Tacoma truck, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
The driver of the Honda – 21-year-old Obed Flores – was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries, Lindsay said. The driver of the truck –32-year-old Joshua Davis – was taken to Cape Fear Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Both men were charged with driving while impaired, according to Lindsay. Flores faces an additional red light traffic violation.
Taxi driver robbed on Evans Street
Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating an armed robbery reported Thursday night.
A taxi driver was robbed while in the 400 block of Evans Street at about 9:40 p.m. Thursday, according to Lindsay. The driver picked up a man in the 1000 block of Rankin Street and ended his route with the customer on Evans Street.
The customer reportedly asked the driver to wait for him while he went to get his fee, Lindsay said. While the driver was waiting in the taxi, a suspect approached the vehicle, stated he had a weapon and demanded money. The suspect ran from the scene toward Princess Place Drive.
The suspect was described as a black male who is 6-feet tall with a slim build. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt. The investigation is ongoing.
