A Wilmington man was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting an 11-year-old child.
Alberto Lucero, 45, pleaded guilty in New Hanover County Superior Court on Monday to charges of rape of a child and taking indecent liberties with a child, according to a news release from District Attorney Ben David.
The victim reported to investigators with the Wilmington Police Department that the defendant repeatedly sexually assaulted her, David said. The crimes occurred in 2014.
Lucero reportedly admitted to the assaults including monitoring the child’s menstrual cycle to prevent pregnancy. DNA evidence taken during the case tied the defendant to the crimes, David said.
Superior Court Judge W. Allen Cobb Jr. sentenced Lucero to 41 to 59 months in the N.C. Department of Corrections and order to register as sex offender upon release from prison.
