The mayor of Caswell Beach has been indicted on multiple felony charges.
Harry Q. Simmons Jr., 62, was indicted on 18 felony charges including obtaining property by false pretenses of $100,000 or more, according to District Attorney Jon David. He is charged in connection with handling Brunswick Beach Consortium funds.
Simmons was arrested in Caswell Beach on Monday by members of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and agents with the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, David said.
Simmons is being held at the Brunswick County Jail. Superior Court Judge Ebern T. Watson set Simmons’ bond at $1 million.
David has scheduled a press conference about the case Tuesday morning.
