William ‘Bill’ R. Avery, 85, known as the ‘handsome man with the fastest cars’

William “Bill” R. Avery went to be with his loving bride on Sept. 25, 2015, at the age of 85.

William was born on July 14, 1930, in Pender County. He was the son of the late Joe Rhem Avery and Allene Hall Avery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie, in 2013.

He was known by many as the handsome man with the fastest cars. William shared a passion for family, friends and his love for soccer. He truly touched everyone’s life that he came across.

William leaves behind two sons, David Avery and Joel Avery; two daughters, Elizabeth Knotts and husband Kraig and Maria Avery; one brother, Joe Avery; five grandchildren, Morgan, Emily, Destany, Brayden and Madelyn; and his close companion, Ruth Sutton.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Donnie Lovett officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Caper Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401
