A Wilmington man has been charged with deaths of a mother and her toddler, both of whom died Sunday morning in what police described as a violent attack at Greentree Apartments.
A 35-year-old woman and her 1-year-old child were found dead inside a car at the apartment complex off Greentree Road after an attack, which also injured another woman and a 3-year-old child at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley.
The seriously injured woman and 3-year-old victim were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment, Rawley said.
Police found the suspect – 34-year-old Darrell Gerard Taylor, of Wilmington – outside the apartments in the 4700 block of Greentree Road, Rawley said. Taylor was reportedly armed, but police were able to take him into custody.
“A mother and child are dead this morning after a violent attack,” Rawley said. “The detectives are still working to put the pieces together.”
Police have not stated what type of injuries the victims suffered in the attack. The victims’ names will not be released until next of kin have been notified, Rawley said. The investigation is ongoing.
Taylor has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Jail.
He is scheduled to make his first appearance in New Hanover County District Court on Monday.
