New Hanover Regional Medical Center is hosting a Pink Ribbon event to raise funds to help breast cancer patients in the Cape Fear region.
The 18th Annual Pink Ribbon Project luncheon is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Wilmington Convention Center, 515 Nutt St., according to New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) Spokeswoman Claire Parker.
The event will feature best-selling author and breast cancer survivor Patti Callahan Henry, and an exclusive purse auction, Parker said.
A Pink Ribbon cocktail celebration is also scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Hilton Wilmington Riverside, 301 N. Water St. The event will feature live entertainment, food, a silent auction and spirits wall.
Proceeds from the events will support the NHRMC Foundation’s effort to provide free mammograms and diagnostic services to underserved women and comfort bags to newly diagnosed cancer patients.
Since 1998, the Pink Ribbon events, community partnerships and donations have raised more than $1.9 million and provided over 6,000 comfort bags to area women as they undergo treatment for cancer.
“These bags contain items that range from the practical to the inspirational and are designed to let women know they’re not alone as they go through a difficult period,” Parker said.
The project also funds mammography screenings for women in the region who do not have health insurance or financial resources, and follow-up diagnostic procedures for women who receive a suspect mammography result.
