Crime notebook: Suspect wearing ‘zebra’ pants robs Scotchman at gunpoint

Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating two armed robberies reported early Tuesday morning.

A gunman robbed a Scotchman store at 901 S. Third St. at about 4:10 a.m., according to police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. The man reportedly showed a handgun to the clerk, then took cash and cigarettes from the store. The suspect is described as a slim black man who is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and in his late 20s. He wore a dark sweater, zebra-stripped pants and a baseball cap. He ran out of the store headed south on Third Street.

A man robbed a Han-Dee Hugo at 5002 Market St. just after 5 a.m., Lindsay said. The man walked up to the store clerk and reportedly told the clerk he had a weapon. He took cash from the clerk and ran out of the store. The suspect is described as a black man who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and in his 20s. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans and a dark cap.

This is the third robbery of a Han-Dee Hugo store in two weeks. A masked gunman reportedly robbed a Han-Dee Hugo at 425 N. College Road early Saturday morning. On Wednesday, Sept. 16, a man robbed a Han-Dee Hugo on Oleander Drive at gunpoint.
