Ernest Ray Daniels, of Wilmington, died Sept. 20, 2015, at the age of 83.

Ernest was born on Feb. 17, 1932, in Wayne County, son of the late Mildred and Paul Daniels. He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Jackson.

Ernest proudly served his country in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star of Valor. He owned Daniels Barber Shop and retired from General Electric. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting sports and gardening.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Mary C. Daniels; son, Ernest Ray Daniels II, his wife, Mary Daniels and their children, Madeline and Matthew Daniels; daughter, Paula Daniels- Haigler and her children, Thomas Picone and Mary Shaye Picone; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Geraldine Reeves.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, with Pastor John Pflug officiating. Military honors will follow provided by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard.
