The Wilmington Family YMCA is kicking off its next season of Girls on the Run and STRIDE with a fundraiser from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Roland-Grise Middle School auditorium, 4412 Lake Ave. Doors open at 3:30.
Girls on the Run and STRIDE for preteen girls and boys, respectively, are non-profit prevention programs that encourage self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.
The event will include a screening of Disney’s “MacFarland USA,” a movie starring Kevin Costner that tells the story of a failing football coach who turns seven unlikely students into cross country stars. There will also be raffles, concessions and giveaways.
Admission is a $10 donation for adults and $5 for children ages 15 and under. Tickets are available the day of the event or in advance at the Express YMCA, 11 S. Kerr Ave., or Fleet Feet Sports, 1125 Military Cutoff Road.
All proceeds will be used to provide scholarships for youth enrolled in the Y’s Girls on the Run and STRIDE programs.
