Renovations to Waccamaw park have been completed, making it the newest parks project in Brunswick County.

Brunswick County Parks and Recreation recently announced that renovations to the existing Waccamaw Park, 5855 Waccamaw School Road NW in Ash, have been completed with several additions and upgrades, according to Melinda Johnson, a spokeswoman with the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation.

The Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department has been in the process of assessing all of its parks throughout the county and finding out which parks are in need of attention, Johnson said. The Waccamaw project comes just after the renovation of Town Creek Park in Winnabow.

“The need for renovations to our existing parks is in part due to the age of the park, the amount of use the park has and the need to make our parks available to persons with disabilities,” Johnson said.

The renovations include an additional baseball field, new playground, disc golf course, a new basketball court, picnic tables, bocce ball and horseshoes. Additional parking was also installed. The Waccamaw Park is now connected to Waccamaw School’s multipurpose field making it easier for the school to use the park’s new amenities.

“We are thrilled to open this park to the public and believe this park will be an asset to the Ash community for generations. We hope you can visit the park and see the transformation,” Johnson said.
