Marion “Peggy” Herring Bryan, 95, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, peacefully at home.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, William Bryan Sr. and her parents, F.L. and Vera Lewis Herring.

She is survived by two sons, William M. Bryan Jr. and Richard F. Bryan Sr. and wife, Sherry; two grandchildren, Richard F. Bryan Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Clinton and Holly Bryan Thorson and husband Tom of Seattle, Washington; four great grandchildren, Rebekah Bryan and Trey Bryan of Clinton and Brad Thorson and Katie Thorson of Seattle, Washington.

Formerly of Dunn, Peggy enjoyed playing golf and bridge, buying and selling antiques and completing crossword puzzles. Her proudest moment was retiring in March 2014 from her volunteer position at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She began volunteering in the summer of 1961 at the former James Walker Hospital and spent 53 years happily donating her time. Peggy was not only popular with the staff and patients at the hospital but seemed to have a special bond with the youth members of her community and church. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Cape Fear County Club.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Zappin Home Health Care for the compassionate care given to Peggy.
