Ashley ran their win streak to eight straight to start the season as the Screaming Eagles pulled out a 2-1 win over Topsail in the conference opener for both teams on Tuesday night.
“Topsail played a very good game and made things tough all night,” said Ashley Coach Greg Marinich. “I’m glad we were able to remain patient and continue to press them.”
The Pirates led most of the match before Josh Chapman and Duenis Aviola found the back of the net for Ashley, who improved to 8-0 overall and 1-0 in conference. The Screaming Eagles head to Buctown for a date with Laney on Thursday.
Cape Fear Academy 3 North Brunswick 2
Zach Tomosunas tallied the game-winning goal in the 70th minute off an assist from Holt Robison as Cape Fear Academy defeated North Brunswick 3-2 on Tuesday. The Hurricanes improved to 7-4-2 overall and remain 1-1 in conference.
Robert Schuett put Cape Fear Academy in front in the 14th minute to grab a 1-0 advantage headed into halftime. Tomosunas and Robison connected for the second score to give the Hurricanes a two goal cushion before the Scorpions answered back. Christian Cruz put North Brunswick on the board midway through the second half and Christian Lancaster leveled the match in the 66th minute.
Robison finished with two assists, while Al Cavagnaro recorded five saves for Cape Fear.
West Brunswick 3 South Brunswick 2
With the game tied after South Brunswick rallied from a two goal deficit in the first half, Tristan Murphy tallied for the second time of night in extra time to give West Brunswick a 3-2 win on Tuesday.
John McNeil found the back of the net on an early goal and Murphy scored off an assist by McNeil later in the first period as the Trojans took a commanding lead at the break.
The Trojans moved to 1-0 in conference and 6-2 overall. The Cougars fell to 0-1 in league play and 5-5.
Coastal Christian 8 Fayetteville Christian 1
Coastal Christian continued its early season success and dominated from the opening kick on Tuesday as the Centurions defeated Fayetteville Christian 3-1 to record their first conference win of the year.
Matthew Snyder recorded the hat trick, while Matt Ward picked up one goal and an assist.
