Deputies with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a bomb threat at the courthouse.

A bomb threat was called into the New Hanover County Courthouse at about 9:45 a.m. Monday, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.

Deputies are evacuating the courthouse to ensure the building is safe, Brewer said. Surrounding streets, between Fifth and Third, are currently blocked off.

Attorneys and courthouse staff are waiting along neighboring street sidewalks as the investigation continues.
