Charles ‘Dick’ Rushing, a ‘people person’ known for always having a good joke

Charles “Dick” Darrell Rushing, of Wilmington, passed away on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015.

Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, he was the son of Doris Rivenbark Casey of Rocky Point and Alexandria, Virginia and the late Charles Rushing. He was the husband of the late Nancy Rushing.

Dick was a graduate of Fort Union Military Academy, where he played basketball. He always had a great joke to tell, especially at family reunions. He loved entertaining and being around people, as he was truly a “people person.”

He is survived by his two sons, Casey Rushing of Wilmington, and Scott Peterson Rushing of Alexandria, Virginia; and two stepsons, Charles and Anthony Franks of Wilmington.

Services were held Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington. A funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 14 at the funeral home, with burial at Riley’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Rocky Point.
