Rebecca Rosalee Burgess Lewis, of Castle Hayne, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. She was 73.
She was born Feb. 15, 1942, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace T. Burgess of Winston-Salem. She attended high school in Winston-Salem and graduated from Wake Forest University. She retired from teaching Latin, English and French at New Hanover High School. She was a classical scholar, church organist and pianist and beloved by family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband, George C. Lewis, of Old Bridgesite Road; children, Elizabeth, Marcus and Jane, all of Castle Hayne; grandchildren, John Elliot Lewis, of Seattle and Arlo, Donovan and Felix Hill, of Castle Hayne; sisters, Sara Burgess Page and husband Pete and Mary Burgess Wright and husband Steve, of Wilmington; and son-in-law, Tucker Hill, of Old Bridgesite Road.
A service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel, 1617 Market St. Interment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery.
