Danni Hawes Long, of Ocean Isle Beach, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at her home. She was 59.

Danni was born on Oct. 3, 1955, in New Hanover Co., a daughter of the late James Merell and Lena Caison Hawes.

She was a respiratory therapist technician for many years at Brunswick Community Hospital. She was a member of the Eastern Star, an EMT instructor, EMT intermediate with Bald Head Island Public Safety and past member and chief of Shallotte Volunteer Rescue Squad. In addition to her family, her passions involved being “Nana,” gardening, beekeeping, turtle watching, fishing and the salt air.

Surviving are her husband, Jimmy Long; beloved daughters, Wendi Taylor (Deen), of Fuquay Varina and Suzanne Nason (Wayne), of Durham; sister, Merlene Dew (Buddy), of Bolton; loving grandchildren, Chandler and Bennett Nason and Caison and Aubrey Taylor; nephews, Patrick and Riley Dew; and her devoted spaniel, Brittney.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at Brunswick Funeral Service. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at Old Shallotte Baptist Church, where she attended, conducted by the Rev. Rory Thigpen and the Rev. Landis Lancaster. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Billy Benton, Tyler Lancaster, Joseph Hawes, Brandon Hawes, Larry Musselwhite and Jason L. Benton. Honorary casketbearers will be Bradley and Tyler Hardee.
