A tip from a citizen has helped police arrest one of two suspects in connection with an armed robbery at a Hardee’s on Tuesday.
Orlando Rashea Johnson, 28, of Wilmington, was arrested Thursday afternoon at Independence Mall, 3500 Oleander Drive, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. He has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at Hardee’s, 1970 S. 17th St., at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Two masked men – one with a handgun and one with a knife – entered the restaurant through a side door, Lindsay said. The two men took two cell phones and cash, then ran out of the business headed north.
A citizen called police to alert them that the suspect was possibly inside the mall, Lindsay said. Police arrested Johnson on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods or property and possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, Johnson has been convicted of three felonies, including assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule I controlled substance and speeding to elude arrest. He was also convicted of three misdemeanors.
Johnson is being held at the New Hanover County jail under a $255,000 secured bond.
