Laney survived a tough test in their final tuneup before conference play as the Bucs pulled out a 1-0 result over Swansboro on Thursday night.

Wesley Nelson found the back of the net for Laney. The Bucs ran their unbeaten streak to nine, improving to 6-0-3 overall. They return to the pitch at Legion Stadium to open league play against New Hanover on Tuesday, September 15.

Matt Bangart scored the lone goals for CFA in the 54th minute off an assist by Holt Robison. Al Cavagnaro also made eight saves for the Hurricanes.

Laney remains atop the Mideastern Conference standings following a 6-3 win over South Brunswick. The Bucs swept singles play as Suzie Schoolfield swept a 6-0, 6-0 match on the No. 2 court, while Erin Nesselroade, Kendall Hanks and Sydney Young dropped just one game each as an individual.

Ashlie Atento and Maya Blanton recorded an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles to clinch the match.
Hoggard (1-4, 1-2 Mideastern) got singles victories from Kara Ferner (No. 1) and Claudia Opper (No. 2). Ferner and  Traflet won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
