Frederick Thomas Underwood, of Carolina Beach, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was 90.

He was born on May 23, 1925, in Ozark, Illinois, son of the late Fred Albert Underwood and Maude Gray Underwood. Fred was also preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Ann Poole Underwood; two brothers; and one sister.

Fred is survived by his wife, Margie Cunningham Underwood; daughters, Sandra Sue Exum (Jerry) and Michell Ann Albin (Bryan); stepsons, Dan and Phillip Denston; stepdaughter, Becky Abeling (Richard); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Fred served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a radio tech second class and was a veteran of WWII. He retired from Fairfax County Virginia Water Authority. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Carolina Beach.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Carolina Beach. Inurnment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Carolina Beach General Fund or Lower Cape Fear Hospice in memory of Fred Underwood.
