Victoria “Vicky” Mintz Wheeless, of Wilmington, died Sept. 8, 2015, at the age of 74.
She was born Jan. 27, 1941, daughter of the late Arnold and Gladys Mintz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Fowler and nephew, Wilbur Mintz Jr.
Educated in the New Hanover County school system, Vicky spent a lifetime of service as a registered nurse, first in the operating rooms at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and later, until her retirement, as a school nurse at Hoggard High School.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Russell Wheeless, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Gency Fowler, of Louisville, Kentucky; brothers, Arnold (Krista) and Wilbur (Mary Lou), of Wilmington, Jesse (Nancy), of Scotts Hill and Billy (Carolyn), of Saluda, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Marsha (Harvey) Holland and Betty Lynn Cornell, of Spokane, Washington; step-grandchildren, Leslie Stone and Maryanna Wallace; special cousin/best friend, Emily Ann Hale; and a host of other family and friends.
The family is thankful for all the many visits, calls and words of kindness and for the special care she received from her many doctors and the staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. May God bless all of you.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at Whispering Pines Baptist Church, 6547 Carolina Beach Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
