Myrna Wexler died peacefully due to cancer on Sept. 8, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. She was 74.

She is survived by her children, Suzi and Richard Gutsin, Allison Wexler Wittenberg and Staci Jason-Mostyn (Corey); grandchildren, Jeffrianne, Alex, Sydnie, Jamie and Andrew; loving extended family and large group of loyal friends; and most importantly by her faithful and lifelong companion (since middle school!), her adoring husband and best friend, Owen.

She was a great mother, teacher, mentor, advocate and a fighter for the underprivileged, a loyal community servant and devoted volunteer. She never knew a stranger and has moved on to a better place where she will be waiting for Owen at the next tree. In his words, “Wow–what an extraordinary woman!”

Services will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street. Remembrances and hugs will be shared starting at 5 p.m. at the Wexler residence following the service. Friends and family will also be received at the residence Friday until noon, Saturday after sunset and all day Sunday and Monday.

At mom’s insistence, no flowers please. Donations may be made in her honor to Airlie Gardens, 300 Airlie Road, Wilmington, NC 28403.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Andrews Mortuary.
