Leroy Beasley Jr. died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Duke University Hospital in Durham after a long illness. He was 82.
He was born on July 30, 1933, in Wilmington, son of the late Edgar Leroy Beasley and Annie Mae Rogers Beasley.
After graduating from N.C. State, he pursued a career in church furniture manufacturing and worked for Winebarger Church Furniture in Lynchburg, Virginia for 25 years. He served as president of the Church Furniture Manufacturers Association from 1976 to 1978. In 1984, he returned to his hometown of Wilmington and became a land developer, operating as Beasley Associates. Throughout the years, Leroy contributed to the growth and development of many communities within the area until his retirement several years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Sondra; daughter, Christina Zehner (Steve); granddaughter, Zoe Zehner; and sons, John Beasley and Randy Crews (Abbey), all of Wilmington.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at Pine Valley United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
