Joe G. Parker, of Wilmington, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at the age of 68.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James Earl and Minnie Jo Parker and his brother, James Earl Parker Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Swicegood Parker; sons, Scott Parker, Howard (Butch) Beaudry and companion Cheri, Mike Schulz and wife Amy and Billy Ross and wife Jo; daughters, Christy Parker Furr and husband Steve, Denise Gurganious and husband Dean and Jeana Johnson and husband Chris; special aunt, Shirley Sanders; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many cousins.

Joe retired after 34 years of dedicated service at Halifax Linen Service. He enjoyed spending time camping and fishing with his family. It did not matter if he was net fishing or using a rod and reel–it was always his special place. On Sunday afternoons, he loved watching NASCAR and spending time in the garden. He will be missed by not only his family but also his best friends, W.C. and Ann Carter.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 2015, at the chapel of Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens. Joe’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
