Robert “Bob” L. Shields died Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at the age of 69.

Bob was born Aug. 1, 1946, in Wilmington, son of the late Louis and Martha Shields. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, William; parents; and nephew-in-law, Lee Galloway.

He is survived by his brother, Vance Shields (Linda); nieces, Elizabeth Galloway and Sara Selander (Craig); nephew, Preston Shields (Rachel); great-niece, Gracyn Galloway; and great-nephews, Hudson Galloway, Bird Shields and Craton Selander.

Bob attended grade school in Jacksonville and Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. He graduated from Jacksonville Senior High School and Appalachian State University. He was a member of the American Legion Post 10 and was employed by Johnson Drug and Home Medical. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his friends on the many beautiful courses in southeastern North Carolina.

Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or the Shields-Sparkman Medical Allied Health Scholarship of Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel on College Road, with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Onslow Memorial Park in Jacksonville.
