Some local eateries are getting national attention for being some of the best places in the state to taste sweet treats or sip a cold brew.
Scoutology, a website that checks out the top businesses and tourist spots in cities and states across the nation, included Hot Pink Cake Stand and The Peppered Cupcake in its recent list of the top 14 cupcake shops in North Carolina.
And the site gave nods to Copper Penny and Sweet n Savory as two of the top 16 pubs in the state.
Hot Pink Cake Stand, 114 N. Front St. and 5543 Carolina Beach Road Suite 140, came in at the third spot on the cupcake list. Scoutology noted the store’s unique selection of specialty flavors, including pink Champagne, chocolate Cabernet and vanilla lavender. The Peppered Cupcake, also downtown at 105 S. Front St., came in at number 12, lauded for its namesake flavor, as well as its bourbon black cherry and vanilla cobbler varieties.
The Wilmington bakeries were in good company with notable cupcake-makers in the Triangle and Asheville, among other metropolitan areas. SAS Cupcakes in Charlotte earned the top ranking.
Copper Penny, 109 Chestnut St., and Sweet n Savory, 2012 Eastwood Road, were similarly placed among pubs in larger North Carolina cities. The pubs ranked seventh and eleventh, respectively. The top five pubs are in Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Raleigh, which had two establishments make the list.
“Copper Penny has great drink prices and food like buffalo shrimp and build your own burgers,” a Scoutology writer noted.
The website found Sweet n Savory to be a great place to watch sports and eat an “exceptional” burger.
