Hoggard volleyball rallies for third win in three days; Laney, W. Brunswick soccer earn results

Hoggard 3    West Brunswick 2

For the second time this week, Hoggard found itself trailing two sets to none before storming back to claim a 3-2 win. The Vikings picked up their third victory in as many nights to improve to 3-0 in league play.

West Brunswick rallied to take the opening game in Shallotte and held off a late push by Hoggard to grab a 2-0 advantage before the Vikings responded. Hoggard dominated set three and put away the Trojans with a 15-5 result in the decisive fifth set.

West Brunswick dropped its first match of the season to fall to 1-1 in conference and 4-1 overall.

 

North Brunswick 3    Trask 2

(22-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18, 15-9)

North Brunswick and Trask traded blows over the opening four sets, but the Scorpions outlasted the Titans 15-9 in the fifth game to pick up a 3-2 win on Wednesday night.

Valerie Renna and Kaylee Scoggins combined for 25 kills and 39 digs, while Claire Longshore recorded 31 assists. Unique Hines also served six aces and Renna was strong at net with six solo blocks.

N. Brunswick stats: Valerie Renna 15 kills, 2 aces, 6 solo blocks, and 20 digs. Kaylee Scoggins 10 kills, 3 aces, 2 assists, 1 solo block, and 19 digs. Claire Longshore 31 assists, 3 aces, 2 kills, and 15 digs. Unique Hines 6 aces, 4 kills, and 10 digs. Bailey Evans 2 kills, 1 assist, 2 solo blocks, and 2 digs. Alleigh Himes 5 aces, 7 kills, and 14 digs. Tasia Bolling 3 aces and 5 digs. Aliah Johnson 2 kills and 6 digs. Jade D’ Louhy 4 digs.

Laney jumped out to a three-goal lead over the opening 20 minutes of the match on their way to a 6-3 road result over White Oak.

Wesley Nelson and Nathaniel Lorenz raised their goal total with two scores apiece. Tristan Nelson and David Dailey also tallied in the win.

Dailey picked up an assist and Jackson Young had two assists for the Bucs, who ran their unbeaten streak to seven straight games to begin the season. Owen Platt and Hunter Garris made three combined saves as Laney improved to 5-0-2 overall.

 

West Brunswick 7    Whiteville 0

Tristan Murphy recorded a hat trick for the Trojans as West Brunswick blanked Whiteville 7-0 in Shallotte.

Lincoln Smith added two goals, while John McNeil and Alex Younts found the back of the net. The Trojans improved to 3-2 overall and continue a three-game home stand against Jacksonville on Thursday.
