Catherine Doris Seward Wunderlich, of Wilmington and formerly of Short Hills and Chadwick Beach, New Jersey and Palm City, Florida, died Aug. 31, 2015, at the age of 92.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; parents, John and Mary (Maier) Seward; and sisters, Margaret Bancroft and Marie Woods.
Catherine graduated at the age of 16 as a star student from Irvington High School. She retired from New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and then became a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She also found great enjoyment in her membership with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Halpatiokee Chapter, in Stuart, Florida.
Most of all, Catherine was proud of rearing three loving and independent daughters and watching them rear her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family get-togethers were always a special time for Catherine, especially those spent at the beach house.
Catherine is survived by her daughters, Mary DeSantis and husband Frank, of Long Branch, New Jersey, Jane Grimm, of Hilton Head, South Carolina and Sally Gibbons and husband John, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Stephanie Sharron (Michael), of South Carolina, Andrew Grimm, of California, Colin Grimm (Ashley), of New Jersey, Cate Gibbons, of North Carolina and Allison Ellis (Tyler), of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Christina, Zachary and Hunter Sharron, Aiden Ellis and Carter Grimm; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Holle Funeral Home in Maplewood, New Jersey. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Short Hills, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
