Gerald Bush “Butch” Metcalf, of Wilmington, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, at the age of 70.

He always had a welcoming smile and never knew a stranger. Butch was a commercial fisherman for most of his life and loved being on the water. He was also the epitome of a handyman. He so loved the Lord and his church family as a deacon at Seaside Chapel for many years with those very talents and a compassionate spirit. He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran.

His great pride and joy in life was his family, including his beautiful bride of 50 years, Dianne; children, Robby Metcalf and wife Teresa, Jamie Metcalf and Laura and Gina Evans and husband Starlin; grandchildren, Joseph, Rosalyn, Kody, Marie, Kirk, Joshua, Starlin, Jasmine and Nadia, whom he always had a listening ear and word of advice for; and sister, JoAnne Waldrop and husband Pete.

There are no words to express how much he will be missed. However, we take comfort knowing he is with our Lord and Savior and we rejoice in that.

A celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Seaside Chapel.

Memorial gifts may be made to Seaside Chapel, P.O. Box 451, Carolina Beach, NC, 28428.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Andrews Mortuary.
