Bertha “Bertie” Lookabaugh, of Hampstead and formerly of Springfield, Ohio, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 93.

Bertha was born at home in 1922 in Selma, Ohio, the youngest of three children born to Harry and Christina Cantor Powers.

She graduated from Cedarville High School, where she received the honor of being accepted into the National Honor Society for scholars. After graduation she farmed with her parents until their deaths in the 1980s. She loved gardening, sewing, cooking and working with animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Lookabaugh; oldest son, Glenn Lookabaugh (d. 1990); second son, Kent Lookabaugh (d. 2007); brother, Herbert Powers (d. 2005); sister, Phyllis McClimans (d. 1985); and a special companion of 12 years, Robert R. Swope (d. 2014).

She is survived by her sons, Mark (Roxanne) Lookabaugh and Brian Lookabaugh, both of Springfield, Ohio; daughter, Elaine Redmond (Andy), of North Topsail Beach; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two nephews; one niece; very special cousin, Ruthie Clemans; and many other cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, at Blake’s Chapel Advent Christian Church. Bertha will be cremated and her ashes placed beside her husband’s in a cemetery in South Charleston, Ohio.
