Charles Frank Pratt Sr., 94, WWII veteran who was never too busy to lend a helping hand

Charles Frank Pratt Sr., of Wilmington, died Aug. 23, 2015, at Liberty Commons Nursing Center. He was 94.

He was born on July 14, 1921, in Omack, Washington, son of the late Charlie and Anna Pratt. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded by death by his wife, Lina Evelyn Pratt; sisters, Dorthy and Pearl; and grandson, James.

He was a devoted member of Primitive Baptist Church and loved the congregation dearly. Charles proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and was never too busy to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his sons, Charles F. Pratt Jr. and wife Sue, David L. Pratt and wife Darlene and Christopher E. Pratt and wife Debbie; daughters, Anna P. Prince and her husband Aubrey “Buddy” and Lina E. Pratt; grandchildren, Charles III, Jim, Eric, Sarah, Amanda, John, Rebekah, Stephanie, Sajj, Loren, Angela and Jonathan; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Elder Gene Lupton officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409 with military honors provided by the American Legion Honor Guard Post 10.
