The Brigade Boys & Girls Club has set a new record in the number of backpacks distributed to its club members.

New backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to 342 children during the club’s annual “Stuff the Backpack” campaign on Aug. 14, according to club spokeswoman Cindy Anzalotti. The number of backpacks donated at this year’s campaign exceeded last year’s total of 314.

The campaign is supported by donations from companies and individuals in the Wilmington community who sponsor club kids, Anzalotti said. The donations help prepare club members for the upcoming school year.

“By providing a new backpack and school supplies, we can ensure our club members have a great start to their school year and are on the path to academic success,” said  Brigade Boys & Girls Club Vice President of Operations Angie Hill.
