Amanda Lee Futrell, of Castle Hayne, died after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was 38.

She was born May 17, 1977, in Wilmington. Amanda graduated from Laney High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. She earned an associates degree in nursing and was a published author. Amanda loved animals, but had a special affection for horses and dolphins. Amanda was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents, George and Arlene Watkins Futrell; brothers, Clint Futrell and Adam Futrell (Brandie); niece, Katelynn; nephew, Zachary; special aunt, Marie Watkins; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who loved her dearly; and her fur baby, Cocoa.

Amanda was preceded in death by her granny, Myrtle Watkins.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at Northside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rob Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Dakota Marshall, Adam Futrell, Marc Watkins, David Marshall, Chris Rhodes and Mike Keith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local animal rescue of your choice.
