Richard Ottivio Cappiello, of Hampstead, died unexpectedly on Aug. 8, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was 74.

He was born in East Harlem, New York, on Jan. 22, 1941, son of the late Matthew and Dora Cappiello.

Richard married his beloved wife Rose on Dec. 15, 1968. Two years later, they moved to Long Island, New York, and it was there that their daughter Dora was born on Feb. 3, 1975. They spent 35 years on Long Island before retiring to Hampstead in 2005.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Louis Cappiello and sister-in-law, Nanette Towne.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Rose; daughter and son-in-law, Dora and Giovanni Lobo, of Jacksonville; precious grandsons whom he adored, Alexander, Casey and Matthew; sister-in-law, Sarah Cappiello, of Gloucester, Virginia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Harold Cohn, of Beacon, New York; brother-in-law, Bill Towne, of Glenburnie, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.

Our hearts are broken. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

A celebration of his life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Aug. 20, 2015, at All Saints Catholic Church, 18737 U.S. 17 N., Hampstead, NC 28443.
