The 29th Annual BB&T Football Jamboree is set for Friday, August 14 at Legion Stadium in Wilmington. The prep scrimmage is a fundraiser for 10 southeastern North Carolina high schools and student scholarships.
The jamboree begins at 5 p.m. with a cheerleading showcase, while scrimmages are set to kick off at 6 p.m. Local programs competing at the event include: Laney vs. South Columbus; Wallace-Rose Hill vs. Hoggard; Ashley vs. West Brunswick; New Hanover vs. Whiteville; North Brunswick vs. South Brunswick. Each game consists of two 12-minute periods.
“This annual event highlights the excitement and anticipation for a run at conference titles and state playoffs for the 10 area high schools,” said BB&T’s Andrew Cooke, Jamboree Co-Chairman. “It is one of the most exciting high school events in southeastern North Carolina with a playoff atmosphere to kickoff the season.”
This will be the first time North Brunswick competes under the lights at Legion Stadium as part of the event. First-year coach Larry Brock played in the scrimmage during his playing days at South Brunswick and hopes to get a good look at his new team leading up to week one.
“I remember those times getting a chance to play at Legion Stadium and it was a memorable time for me,” Brock said. “It’ll be a good experience for the team to see how they react in the spotlight.”
