Joseph Bryan Lea, a lifetime resident of Hampstead, died Aug. 10, 2015, at the age of 83.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Ward Lea.

As a young boy, he began a lifelong career in the seafood industry with J.H. Lea & Sons, Inc. and continued there until his retirement.

Bryan will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, uncle, neighbor and friend. He was a man of integrity with a gentle spirit. Having an unassuming character, a high regard for history and a strong work ethic in himself and others, he was compassionate toward all who knew him.

Surviving are his nieces, Karla Ward, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Kelli Ward Tilley and husband Tim, of High Point.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, Hampstead Chapel, 17730 U.S. 17, Hampstead, NC 28443. A graveside service and interment will follow at 11 a.m. at Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
