Man charged with sexual assault
Wilmington police have charged a man in connection with a sexual assault in downtown Wilmington.
Police were flagged down by two witnesses who reportedly saw a sexual assault in Quince Alley near Front Street in Wilmington just before 2 a.m. Saturday, according to police department spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
The suspect—25-year-old Damien Aaron White—was arrested a short time later, Lindsay said.
It appears the suspect was not known to the 22-year-old female victim, Lindsay said. The investigation is ongoing.
White has been charged with first-degree rape, according to jail records. He is being held at the New Hanover County jail under a $250,000 secured bond.
Armed robbers steal cash, rental car and shoes
Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating three armed robberies reported over the weekend.
Three women and two men were parked in the 1300 block of Castle Street at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday, when a man entered the vehicle with a handgun and demanded money, according to police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. The suspect took one of the victim’s cash and left. The suspect was described as a tall light-skinned black man. Lindsay said police believe the victims were reportedly in the area to purchase marijuana and were set up to be robbed.
Two men were robbed at gunpoint in the 100 block of Spring Avenue at about 2:18 a.m. Sunday, according to Lindsay. The suspect reportedly took a wallet and a rental vehicle from two victims sitting in while in an area parking lot. The rental vehicle is described as a 2014 black Nissan Altima. The suspect was described as a black man who was 5 feet 10 inches tall. He wore dark clothing and had his face covered.
A black male suspect reportedly took a man’s shoes at gunpoint in the 400 block of Davie Street at about 8:13 p.m. Saturday, according to Lindsay. The suspect was described as a black man who was about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He had dreadlocks and drove a dark colored Nissan.

New Hanover County
Detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office are searching for three suspects wanted in connection with an assault at a grocery store.
The victim was shopping at Food Lion, 6400 Carolina Beach Road, at about 6 p.m. Aug. 3, when two white men reportedly bumped into his shopping cart, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Jason Augst. One of suspects reportedly hit the victim in the back of the head.
The suspects ran out of the grocery store and were last seen in a white Ford Escort station wagon. A white woman was also seen with the suspects, Augst said.
