Carolina Beach Town Council will hold a public hearing at its meeting Tuesday night for a proposed Harris Teeter on Pleasure Island.

BBM Associates in Raleigh, the engineering group representing the grocery store, is applying for a conditional use permit to build what will initially be a 53,288-square-foot store at 1000 and 1010 N. Lake Park Blvd. They are also asking for an extra 5,480 square feet for future expansion.

Rather than anchoring a strip mall like most other Harris Teeter locations, this store would be stand-alone and feature a cafe, a pharmacy with a drive-thru window and a separate on-site fuel center.

The proposal was approved by the Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning Commission at their meeting last month with the provision that landscaping and connectivity issues would be addressed.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carolina Beach Town Hall. The floor will be open for public comment and members of the community are invited to attend.
