Curtis Leo Merritt Sr., 90, US Army, WWII veteran

Curtis Leo Merritt Sr., of Castle Hayne, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was 90.

Mr. Merritt was the son of William McKinley Merritt and Leila Hardee Merritt. He was preceded in death by his son, Curtis Leo Merritt Jr.

Mr. Merritt served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Survivors include a daughter, Flora Padgett and husband Willie, of Castle Hayne; daughter-in-law, Nancy Merritt, of Rocky Point; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
