Catherine Rita Hank (nee Shanley), of Wilmington, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, at the age of 92.
“Kay,” as she was lovingly known by her family and friends, was born April 22, 1923, in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn, New York, to Thomas F. Shanley and Susan O’Connell Shanley. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thomas; and sister, Mary.
Kay leaves behind her loving husband of over 70 years, John Hank; son, John (Mary Kay) Hank; daughter, Catherine Grady (Mike;) and beloved granddaughters, Colleen and Carolyn Grady and Tara and Erin Hank.
Her husband John has lost his best friend and the love of his life. They enjoyed many happy times traveling, cross-country skiing and sharing good times with their friends and family.
Faith was important to Kay. She was very active in the Rosary Society at Church of the Nativity in Midland Park, New Jersey, for close to 40 years and then helped out with the Rosary Altar Society at St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington during her retirement years. Kay will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St., Wilmington, NC 28401. Mass of the resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC 28403. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington.
