Harold F. Beatty, 80, Cape Fear Sail and Power Squadron commander

It is with great sadness that the family of Harold F. Beatty announces his passing on Aug. 1, 2015, in Wilmington. He was 80.

He was born on Sept. 20, 1934, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, the son of Alfred and Edna Beatty. Harold was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Gordon.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pat; son, Jeff Beatty, of Cary; daughter, Sandy Beatty Elson, of Jacksonville, Florida; son, Matt Beatty, of Lake in the Hills, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and brother, Richard Beatty, of Beamsville, Ontario, Canada.

Harold worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 43 years. His career started in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and continued in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, as the plant manager. He concluded the last eight years of his career as an engineering consultant in the Des Moines, Iowa, Firestone Plant.

He proudly served as the commander of the Cape Fear Sail and Power Squadron, Wilmington.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
