The news release cited disciplinary actions against Williams after he reportedly “violated team rules.”

“It is always disappointing when someone is dismissed from the program, but there comes a time when an individual’s actions force the loss of a privilege, which in this case is being a part of our team,” McNeill said. “We all have the responsibility of being accountable.”

Williams was a redshirt sophomore for the Pirates and served as an offensive lineman. He played in all 13 games as primarily a special teams contributor during his freshman campaign in 2014. He signed with McNeill’s program in February 2013 after totaling 56 tackles, including 33 solo hits, one sack and two fumble recoveries as a senior team captain for head coach Greg Ditz at Laney.
