William Terry Lester, of Shallotte, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Hospice House of Brunswick. He was 82.

Mr. Lester was born on June 8, 1933, in Hoke County, a son of the late L.M. and Leeanna McGougan Lester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Lester.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired following 30 years as a parole officer with the N.C. Department of Corrections. Mr. Lester proudly received The Order of the Long Leaf Pine award on June 30, 1993, by Gov. Jim Hunt, prior to his retirement.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Carolyn Lester; daughter, Christine Dailey, of Asheville; and granddaughters, Claire and Rachel Henry.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015, at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel. Inurnment will be private.
