Emile “Jay” Joseph Erard Jr., of St. James Plantation, died peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was 74.

Jay was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Boston, grew up in Yonkers, New York, and raised his family in New City, New York.

In addition to his parents, Emile and Frances Magee Erard, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Tommy.

He cherished time with his loved ones and built a special relationship with each of his beloved 10 grandchildren that will last a lifetime. He also enjoyed volunteering at the ER at Dosher Memorial Hospital as well as at the food pantry in Boiling Spring Lakes for many years.

Jay is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 54 years, Dorothy Bonnie Erard; three children, E. Joseph Erard III, Ellen Bonnie Wasik (Kenneth) and Suzanne Catherine Glatz (William); 10 grandchildren, Julia, Bethany, Brooke, Brian, Grant, Samuel, Mark, Michael, Connor and Joshua; sister, Margo Enos; and brother, Larry Erard.

A funeral Mass will be held at noon on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
