obit flagJohn Fales Brooks Jr., 81, a resident of Shallotte for 10 years, died July 21, 2015, after a lengthy illness. He was 81.

He was born and raised in Epping Forest, Annapolis, Maryland, son of the late John Fales Brooks Sr. and Naomi Elizabeth Brooks.

He worked for Sears for more than 20 years and retired from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1998 with 28 years of service. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Elks and Moose.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 43 years, Ruth Ann Brooks; and sister, Marjorie Naomi Cantwell.

He is survived by his current wife of 15 years, Patricia Anne Brooks; daughter, Bonnie Lynn Gagne and her husband, Robert Earl Gagne; son, David Allan Brooks and his wife, Denise Anne Brooks; stepdaughter, Patricia Anne Young and her husband,Tommy Young; and stepdaughter, Jennifer Lynne Smith and her husband, Scott Roger Smith Sr.

John also had five grandchildren, Andrew Brooks Gagne, Aaron Matthew Gagne, Amy Ann Gagne, Taylor Anne Brooks and Jonathan David Brooks and four step-grandchildren, Stephen Lyba, Noah Kenneth Young, Caitlyn Anne Smith and Scott Roger Smith Jr.

Burial will be private.
