Eleanor Dowd, 94, her Christmas Eve dinner featured an endless supply of hor d’oeuvres

Eleanor Dowd, of Southport, died July 20, 2015, at the age of 94.

She was born to Margaret Murray McLaughlin and John McLaughlin and raised in Newark, New Jersey. She graduated from Our Lady of the Valley High School in Orange, New Jersey.

She was married to Christopher J. Dowd, who preceded her in death in 1988. Eleanor was also preceded in death by her parents; siblings, John McLaughlin (1992) and Eileen McLaughlin Kless (1979); and stepfather, Joseph Kless.

Eleanor enjoyed her 41 years of employment in the Newark, New Jersey, and Millburn, New Jersey, offices of doctors Eugene and Victor Parsonnet until her retirement in 1993. She resided in Maplewood, New Jersey, Washington Borough, New Jersey, Greensboro and most recently in Southport, where she lived with her daughter, Virginia Hamill, and son-in-law, Mark Peduto.

In addition to Virginia and Mark, she is survived by her three sons and their wives, Christopher (Kathleen), of Wilmington, Delaware, William (Regina), of Westfield, New Jersey and Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and Peter (Kathy), of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Deirdre Hamill McArthur, Jennifer Hamill, Daniel Hamill, Christopher Dowd Jr., Kara Dowd McNulty, Erin Dowd Fish and Katey Dowd Gonzalez and 13 great-grandchildren.

She will always be fondly remembered for her Christmas Eve dinners that featured an endless supply of hor d’oeuvres. Her’s was a life well lived.

Services will be private.
